Bloomington, Illinois (July 27, 2009) – According to State Farm, wind and hail damage was the primary cause of about 60 percent of their weather-related catastrophe events in 2008. Wind threatens all of the United States, but it doesn’t strike all areas equally.
While there's NOTHING we can do about the weather, there are ways to help minimize the damage from wind. That’s why State Farm‘s Building Technology Research Laboratory (BTR) evaluates various types of building materials to determine their ability to withstand flying debris. State Farm has a one-of-a-kind facility dedicated to testing building materials against weather-related forces such as a tornado or a hurricane.
What does this information mean for you? It means identifying products and techniques to build safer and stronger homes. It also means LESS DAMAGE TO HOMES, which may mean the difference between incurring no damage, minimal damage or major damage.
