Company’s Bloomington Headquarters is Leader in Energy Efficiency
Bloomington, IL, May 20, 2009 – You’re probably used to seeing the ENERGY STAR label on appliances, but what about an insurance company?
State Farm Insurance’s Corporate Headquarters building in Bloomington, IL, has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR for 2008. The certification is a symbol for superior energy efficiency and environmental protection.
Administrative Services Director Jim Broach says the award is the result of concentrated efforts to keep the nearly 40-year-old building running smoothly and efficiently. He believes the award is confirmation of the company’s belief in doing things the right way.
“All of our owned Corporate facilities and Zone operations centers have scores exceeding the 75th percentile, which is required to earn the EPA’s ENERGY STAR label,” he said. “The composite score for our major buildings is 84, meaning we operate more efficiently than 84 percent of comparable buildings. This is a strong testament to our Company philosophy regarding constructing, operating and maintaining our buildings.”
ENERGY STAR was introduced by the EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the ENERGY STAR label can be found on more than 50 different kinds of products, homes and commercial and industrial buildings.
“State Farm’s long-term outlook has been a key to our ability to enhance our buildings with capital projects, such as more efficient lighting and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems,” Broach said. “The result has been reduced energy usage and savings for our policyholders. The payback on these projects has not only been in reduced energy use but also in a better facility for the employees that work here.”
